In a single tweet last night, the Ngud hitmaker let his fans know that the
Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) had received a
complaint about a scene where a chicken is being slaughtered on the Spirit
music video.
“…no complaints from Vevo…let’s hope it’s dismissed otherwise we’re being
called savages,” said the rapper on parts of his tweet.
The scene in questions plays for as little as a second at the very beginning of the
music video and sees an image of a white chicken pinned down with “blood” and
a “bloodied” knife pressed against its neck – which Kwesta says was symbolic to
“a ritual being performed” as part of the song/video’s story line.
The BCCSA is a complaints authority that enforces a Code of Conduct for
television and radio broadcasts in South Africa. Tweeps weren’t too thrilled with
the complaint and took to the comments section to voice their anger.
