National Wills Week is used to create awareness about the importance of having a Will. Attorneys across the country are offering their services to members of the public to put in place a basic Will drafted by them, free of charge. But this is also a time to consider leaving a portion of your estate to charity organisations in a form of a Charitable bequest. A charitable bequest is simply a distribution from your deceased estate to a charitable organisation by a bequest in your Will.

The SOS Children’s Villages is taking advantage of this week and nudging people to consider them as beneficiaries via their SOS Children’s Villages Bequest Programme… How many people actually consider this? Do charities make get reasonable and meaningful donations via charitable bequests? How often do family members of the deceased comply with the wish to donate a portion to charity?

Songezo Mabece was in conversation with Ms Rashilla Francis, the National Legacy Officer at SOS Children’s Villages.
