Epic Church

Welcome to Epic Church. We are a group of people more interested in being the church than just attending church. We believe our lives are wrapped in an epic story about God. We're a group of people committed to exploring, engaging and expanding Gods epic story! We gather on Sundays to worship God and grow in how we love the world around us. Interested in exploring a relationship with God? Consider yourself invited! Already know God and want to make a difference in the world around you? You're invited! Got it all together and don't need anyone or anything to help you through life? You're invited as well! Denial should wear off soon! Come as you are. Single, married, kids, no kids, educated, decaffeinated, artistic, addicted, healthy, wealthy, pierced, broken, searching, struggling, strange, outside, inside, upside down, no matter what everyone is invited to explore and engage the epic story of God.

The word “tension” can be defined as “the relationship between ideas or qualities with conflicting demands or implications." Based on that definition, there are several tensions in the Bible that are hard to reconcile; opposing truths that seem to conflict with each other. These tensions leave us wondering which truth we should apply and what we should do with the opposing truth. In this series, we’ll explore the tension between several of these opposing truths and learn how to reconcile their differences.

When many of us think of Christmas, we often think of simple things like time with family and friends, watching our favorite Christmas movies, or enjoying our typical Christmas traditions. Often our experience of Christmas is anything but that. We frantically rush around trying to buy all the right gifts. We cram too many events into our schedule. We plan, organize, shop for, and invite family and friends to Christmas dinner hoping everyone will just get along this year. Many times, our thoughts of Christmas and our experience of Christmas are two separate things. Christmas is anything but simple these days. In this series, we’ll explore the simplicity of that first Christmas and how we might experience more of that this year. Christmas is about giving, receiving, and Christ.

Sometimes it feels like our world is falling apart. Political division, racial tension, economic uncertainty, hatred, and violence are everywhere. It seems like there's no fixing our broken world. As our world is spiraling out of control, it seems like all we can do is try to survive all this chaos until Jesus comes back. But is that the mission God's given us? Is that His plan for His followers? Is it possible to do more than just survive - but thrive in these uncertain times? The Old Testament prophet Daniel believed we could thrive in a chaotic world. He believed it so much that he thrived under four different pagan kings in four different pagan kingdoms. In our Thrive series, we are going to answer the question that Daniel answered with his life - "How can I thrive in a world that is falling apart?"

So much of the Easter story is unbelievable. Jesus was hailed as a king and then crucified just a few days later by the same people who proclaimed Him king. He lived a perfect life free from sin and then died to pay for the sins of the world as if He commited the sins Himself. He allowed Himself, as God the Son, to be crucified and then rose from the dead by His own power. All these events are unbelievable, but Easter is about God making the unbelievable believable. In our Unbelievable series, we'll explore many of the unbelievable things that God made believable.

He allowed Himself, as God the Son, to be crucified and then rose from the dead by His own power. All these events are unbelievable, but Easter is about God making the unbelievable believable. In our Unbelievable series, we'll explore many of the unbelievable things that God made believable.

Colossians is a book of clarity. It provides clarity in the chaos of life. Imagine if you had the opportunity to talk to Jesus face to face and ask Him two questions. I think we would ask Him the same questions that the Apostle Paul asked Him when he met Him on the road to Damascus..."Who are you, Lord?” and “What do you want me to do?" These are the same two questions that Paul answers for us in Colossians. We'll discover who Jesus is, why He is who He says He is, and how to reflect Jesus in the chaos of life.

There are many commands in the Bible that don't make sense. For example - God tells us to love our enemies. That doesn't make sense. It would make more sense to get even with our enemies. God tells us to forgive people who hurt us. That doesn't make sense. It would make more sense to hurt them back. God tells us to surrender our hearts and trust Him fully. That doesn't make sense because so many of us feel like surrender is a sign of defeat. These commands of God make most of us think - "Say what? What does God want me to do?" So - in our "Say What?" series we'll explore some of the commands of God that don't make sense and how to engage them.

In John 17:20 - 21 Jesus prayed, “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in Me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are one – as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You. Our nation is more divided now than it has ever been and we even see that division within churches. Can we trust the Bible? and Does it really matter what we believe about Jesus? Join us as we try to answer those questions from a Christian perspective.

Today we are bombarded with many different thoughts that seem to contradict each other. Some people tell us “this is important” and other people tell us “that is important”. So we often try real hard to incorporate those different thoughts into our lives – but ultimately we end up confused about how we are really supposed to live. That same thing happened in an ancient city called Colosse. Early followers of Christ were being confused by many of the philosophies and practices of other groups around them. So – the Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the Colossians to bring them clarity in the midst of their confusion. And as we study this letter – we too can get “clarity” about some of the things that confuse us.

The Sermon on the Mount is arguably the most famous sermon of all times. It was a sermon Jesus preached one day to His disciples and a large group of people He had healed of various diseases and illnesses. His audience that day was basically a group of misfits, not good enoughs, rejects and outcasts. And as He spoke to them - Jesus told them what it looks like for them to be "All In" with God. Not partially in - but all in. And through His words Jesus redefined who can connect with God, be accepted by Him and what being fully devoted should look like. Join us for our "All In" series - as we explore the Sermon on the Mount and how it still applies to us today.

When it comes to God the Son, many Christians seem to know a lot about Him and what He's done for us. But when it comes to God the Father, many of us know less about Him, other than He seemed to be the angry God of the Old Testament. And when it comes to God the Holy Spirit, it seems we know even less about Him and His role in our world.

In our Unknown God series, we will attempt to better know the Holy Spirit: His work in our world and our lives.

We all know what it's like to lose something. Most of us have lost our keys or misplaced our wallet at one time or another. But have you ever lost something that was extremely important? Something that can't just be easily replaced? If so, what did you do? Did you search everywhere to find it? Did you ask others to join you in looking for that thing of value? Did it consume all of your time and energy? And if you finally found it, what was your response? Were you excited and relieved? Did you jump for joy? Did you celebrate with your family and friends?

This may be hard to imagine, but God has lost something of great importance to Him. Something that is so important He's focusing all of His time and energy on finding it. It's so important to God, He asks all of His followers to join the search.

In our Found series, Trent will explore what God has lost and the lengths He'll go to find it. We'll even explore God's response when that which was lost is found!

One of the greatest battles in life is our tug of war with God over His will and our will. God has a will and plan for our lives, and we have a will and plan for our lives. As you've probably noticed, those two wills don't always line up.

As much as we like to control our lives, if we don't embrace God's will we'll give into what we're calling a shadow mission, and that shadow mission can be deadly for us, others we love, and our relationship with God. In this series, we'll explore God's true mission for our lives and how to avoid the shadow mission that could pull us away from God forever.

It's amazing how many things form our belief systems as we grow up. We all have values that have been created at least partially by our parents, relatives, friends, experiences, religion, traditions, politics, and media. But what happens when our beliefs get tested? What happens when they don't stand up to the pressures of the day? Sometimes we change our beliefs. Sometimes we exchange one belief for another. Sometimes we stop practicing altogether because they feel like they don't matter anymore. Join us as we explore the truths that anchor our faith in Jesus.

How do we recognize it, and more importantly, how do we let it go?

The truth of the matter is our rebellion can hurt us. There is an ultimate rebel, however, who can show us the right way.

During his time on earth, Jesus invited misbehavers and unbelievers to follow him. We are all invited to follow him. You are invited to follow him, but there's something you need to know about following Jesus. It will cost you something eventually.

It may cost you money, career advancement, or even relationships. That's because Jesus offers us the choice of denying ourselves now or losing ourselves later. But you'll find that when you pay the price for following Jesus, you'll be glad you did.

View Details

Everyone is invited to follow Jesus. Being a sinner doesn't disqualify you. Being a doubter doesn't disqualify you. The goal of following Jesus is a faith that overcomes our fear of the future or our current circumstances. It's a faith that gives us peace.

But what do people who follow Jesus look like? What do they wear?

View Details

Religion says, Change and you can join us. Jesus says, Join us and you will change. There's a huge difference. Jesus doesn't expect you to be perfect. He just wants you to follow him. Being a sinner doesn't disqualify you from following him. Being an unbeliever doesn't disqualify you from following him. In fact, following almost always begins with a sinner taking one small step.

View Details

Jesus says to pray. Jesus says not to look over there. Jesus says to be nice. Jesus says to get up early and read your Bible. Lots of people think Christianity is all about doing what Jesus says. But what if doing what Jesus says isn't what Jesus says to do at all? Regardless of what you believe. Regardless of how you behave. Jesus invites you to follow him.
