I did not want you to miss the opportunity to get the support you need in your pregnancy.

FIRST things first! Are you pregnant?

I know this may sound silly but you would not believe how many women showed up at my office thinking they were pregnant and it turns out they were not.

How does this happen? Well, many women miss their period and immediately assume that they are pregnant. So, the first step I always tell women to take is to get a pregnancy test and confirm they are in fact pregnant.

The best time to take a pregnancy test is early in the morning when you first wake up. When you first wake up your urine will have the most hormones in it and it will give you the most accurate result.

TWO: Start a Prenatal Vitamin

At Pearently we recommend two prenatal vitamins

Another important supplement to take is Folic Acid. Taking 1 mg of folic acid will help decrease your babies risk of being born with a Neural Tube Defect.

THREE: Calculate Your Gestational Age

It is important to establish your dating. When you visit your doctor for your first prenatal visit this is an important question they will ask you in order to plan your due date.

In order to establish your dating look back and find out what the first day of your last period was. Counting from that date to now will give you your gestational age. As an example, if the first day of your last period was March 1st and now it is the middle of April you would be approximately six weeks pregnant.

FOUR: Call your healthcare providers office to establish who you will see and when you can schedule your first prenatal visit.

We have a video inside of Pearently that will help you establish how to make an informed decision when picking your provider for your pregnancy.
