Lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that can lead to damage to many parts of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, blood vessels and brain. Some of its symptoms include joint pain or swelling, muscle pain, skin rashes, fever, hair loss and feeling very tired. Of the about 1.5 million Americans with this disease, women between 15 and 44 are at the greatest risk and minorities and ethnic groups are affected 2-3 times more than whites. On this podcast, two African American women discuss their struggle with this disease and their daily regimens to combat its effects.
