There are 12 piano harmonic minor scales. In harmonic minor scales, the leading note (seventh note) is raised a half a step (semitone). Below is the A harmonic minor scale. Notice the raised leading note (note G sharp) which is circled. Minor key pieces use the harmonic minor scale to create a stronger feeling of movement and resolution to the key note (tonic).

Below are all the piano harmonic minor scales written for both hands. First, practice each hand separately. This will speed up your learning of the scales with correct indicated fingers. You can learn more about how to practice scales here.

A harmonic minor scale has no sharps on flats in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
A – B – C – D – E – F – G♯ – A

Fingering (right hand): 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Fingering (left hand): 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1

E harmonic minor scale has one sharp in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
E – F♯ – G – A – B – C – D♯ – E

Fingering (right hand): 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Fingering (left hand): 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1

B harmonic minor scale has two sharps in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
B – C♯ – D – E – F♯ – G – A♯ – B

Fingering (right hand): 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Fingering (left hand): 4, 3, 2, 1, 4, 3, 2, 1

F sharp harmonic minor scale has three sharps in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
F♯ – G♯ – A – B – C♯ – D – E♯ – F♯

Fingering (right hand): 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3
Fingering (left hand): 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 4

C sharp harmonic minor scale has four sharps in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
C♯ – D♯ – E – F♯ – G♯ – A – B♯ – C♯

Fingering (right hand): 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3
Fingering (left hand): 3, 2, 1, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3

A flat harmonic minor scale has seven flats in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
A♭ – B♭ – C♭ – D♭ – E♭ – F♭ – G – A♭

A flat harmonic minor has the same pitches as G sharp harmonic minor scale but has different note names. These are called enharmonic scales. The note names for G sharp harmonic minor scale are:

G♯ – A♯ – B – C♯ – D♯ – E – F♯♯ – G♯

The fingering is the same whether this scale is written with sharps or flats:

Fingering (right hand): 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3
Fingering (left hand): 3, 2, 1, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3

E flat harmonic minor scale has six flats in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
E♭ – F – G♭ – A♭ – B♭ – C♭ – D – E♭

This scale can also be notated with sharps as it is an enharmonic scale. If notated with sharps, it is called D sharp harmonic minor scale and the notes are as follows:
D♯ – E♯ – F♯ – G♯ – A♯ – B – C♯♯ – D♯

Fingering (right hand): 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3
Fingering (left hand): 2, 1, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2

B flat harmonic minor scale (or A sharp harmonic minor scale) consists of the following notes:
B♭ – C – D♭ – E♭ – F – G♭ – A – B♭

If notated with sharps, it is called A sharp harmonic minor scale and the notes are as follows:

A♯ – B♯ – C♯ – D♯ – E♯ – F♯ – G♯♯ – A♯

Fingering (right hand): 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4
Fingering (left hand): 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 4, 3, 2

F harmonic minor scale has four flats in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
F – G – A♭ – B♭ – C – D♭ – E – F

Fingering (left hand): 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1

C harmonic minor scale has three flats in the key signature and consists of the following notes:

Fingering (left hand): 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 3, 2, 1

G harmonic minor scale has two flats in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
G – A – B♭ – C – D – E♭ – F♯ – G

D harmonic minor scale has one flat in the key signature and consists of the following notes:
