Back pain is disabling and its treatment is contentious. One of the proposed solutions is spinal stimulation, where a device sends bursts of electricity to parts of the spinal cord. Results of a randomised trial in people with low back pain who tried a stimulator were published recently, and the researchers are surprised by what they found.
