In the first three lessons of Revelation Decoded, we have taken a close look at the authorship and date of the writing of the Book of Revelation and have observed that WHO and WHEN truly makes all the difference in the world. We have also seen that Revelation is not a book in the Bible to be read and understood in a direct, linear fashion. Revelation has its own particular style and therefore a most unique approach to how it is to be read and even more so how it is to be understood. In Lesson Four, we we see that what makes the Book of Revelation so unique is that it is composed of three different literary "genres", that is, categories or types of books. It is first and foremost an Epistle. 23 out of the 27 books of the New Testament are Epistles. (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are Gospels.)

Not only is the Book of Revelation an Epistle and a prophecy, but it falls within a third literary style, Apocalyptic literature. Interestingly, the term “Apocalypse” was actually “coined” or taken from the Book of Revelation itself. Need to know more?
