When Matthew decided to write about his experiences with Jesus, he started in an unusual way. Instead of starting with a story he starts with a genealogy. Not only that but he includes some pretty shady characters in the genealogy that would have been better to have left out. Why would he do that? Because Matthew knew that people with a past and people with some skeletons in their closet are the exact reason that Jesus came.
