Lilyer is the stage name of Marte Solbakken, a Norwegian musician living in L.A. Formerly a songwriting member of alt rock outfit WATERS and singer of the San Francisco band Elskling, Solbakken has been working on what would become Lilyer across years and continents.
On a hilltop in San Francisco, in a van touring the U.S., in Oslo during the sunlit summer months and in an attic overlooking the ocean on Norway’s southern coast, the first Lilyer songs were written, a musical quest for belonging in a transient existence.
– I played music growing up but quit as a teenager after I going through some big changes, says Solbakken.
– When I started writing songs it was as if I had rediscovered an essential part of myself. It still feels that way.
Lilyer’s debut EP, «I Was On Your Side», was recorded in downtown L.A. with producer Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes.
Dreamy and soaring pop music for the downcast, Lilyer’s songs reach for their own truth, their own voice. Lilyer is the sound of someone on the verge of breaking free.
