João Ferreira was delighted to make his first appearance in yellow and is excited for more to come, after Watford beat Blackpool 2-0 at The Vic in the Sky Bet Championship.

A second-half strike from youngster Tobi Adeyemo put the Hornets ahead, before an Ismaïla Sarr penalty sealed the three points for Watford on the Graham Taylor Matchday.

Ferreira was subbed on at half-time in place of Jeremy Ngakia for his club debut, and the 21-year-old - who arrived in Hertfordshire earlier this month from Benfica - showed plenty of positive signs that left him feeling good about the coming weeks.

“I’m feeling very happy,” Ferreira said. “It’s my first match and I hope there are many more games to come, and I feel better because we won too.

“I think it was a difficult game, but together we stepped up, we scored the first one and after that the game became easier. We’re all delighted with the final result.”

Besides Ferreira’s Watford bow there were first home and league appearances for Ismaël Koné, Matheus Martins, Tobi Adeyemo and Jack Grieves, as Watford looked to embed some of their new signings and youngsters.

Ferreira explained that he enjoyed playing alongside his new teammates, especially Craig Cathcart and his defensive partners.

Ferreira will be looking to follow up his performance against Blackpool next week, when the Golden Boys host Rotherham United (January 21, 3pm KO) back on second-tier duty.

He added: “[The other defenders] have a lot of experience, and I have a lot to learn from them, so I feel very good because they give me comfort at the back.

“But I feel very good, and I think I can take much from them and learn from them. I can’t wait to get back out there next week, and I hope we can deliver the same result.”
