A week on from securing their place in the FA Women’s National League Cup final, Watford are back in action away at Gillingham in league competition this Sunday (March 12, 2.30pm KO).

Damon Lathrope’s side will be looking to get their FA WNL Southern Premier Division campaign back on track after defeat on their last road trip at the hands of Ipswich Town. This time out they face a rejuvenated Gillingham side who have overcome off-pitch woes to climb out of trouble and into a comfortable mid-table spot.

When Watford last met Gillingham, it was a hot August day as both sides took their first steps in the 2022/23 campaign. The Hornets ran out 3-2 winners on that day thanks to goals from Helen Ward, Bianca Baptiste and Dré Georgiou, getting the Golden Girls off to a flying start.

Sunday’s game will be held at Bauvill Stadium (ME4 6LR), the home of Chatham Town.

There is covered standing behind the goal at the clubhouse end of the ground, while there are covered seats along both sides of the pitch.

If you are travelling to the match by car there is a car park onsite. If the car park is full, please be respectful of residents when parking in any local roads.

If you are travelling to the game by train, turn right out of Chatham station, and then turn right again - you are now on Maidstone Road. Continue up Maidstone Road until you pass the cemetery on your left - the Sports Ground is next on your left. It is a one-mile walk, and should take around 20 minutes to reach the ground.

Tickets for Sunday’s match can be purchased on the gate, costing £5 for Adults and £3 for Concessions. Under-16s receive free entry with a paying adult.

Since their last meeting both sides have faced differing fortunes, with nine points separating them heading into Sunday’s game. The Hornets sit in fourth and the Gills in seventh.

Gillingham have won four of their last six, with 15 of their 23 games played so far being decided by just a goal, with three ending in a draw.

Last week a late change saw Kalani Peart drop out of the Watford squad due to injury, being replaced by Nicola Gibson. While Lathrope will be hoping Peart is fit for the match, he’ll be comfortable knowing he has the experience of Gibson in the squad.

With a final to look forward to in April, the Golden Girls will be fighting for the league and also for their spot in the XI for that showpiece event, so the travelling fans should be treated to a side firing on all cylinders.
