Good afternoon to all our supporters and welcome back to The Vic for a second time this week; our last game before March’s international break.
I mentioned some time back, in a previous set of my programme notes, that we had been reflecting on last year’s Supporters Committee meeting, the reaction it drove among other supporters, the positives and negatives that emerged and the fact we have since been taking counsel from different supporter groups and organisations in order to find a supporter engagement they were happy with – not one created by the club.
It is essential for me that it has to be the supporters themselves that decide the structure of how they are represented across the very broad church that is the Watford fanbase and in what format the meetings take place.
This work is well underway now, and soon there will be an announcement of the supporter-agreed format for future regular meetings.
Gino Pozzo and I will attend in person at the first meeting, which will follow from the publication by supporters themselves as to how they expect the channels of two-way engagement to be fulfilled. There will also be involvement from other members of my senior management team.
In our 11th year as custodians of this club, the fire still burns just as brightly to make Watford FC the best it possibly can be.
I am often asked to speak about our vision and long-term plan for the club. There is nothing complicated or secretive about our plan. It’s a plan management and supporters can share: to achieve success on the field of play, to grow the club off the field, and to be identified as a real force for good within our local community.
Like all good intentions and plans, there will be footballing moments that are not as we would want them, but against this, there will also be memorable times for everyone to enjoy and we intend to deliver many more.
Right now, though, we have a fight on and we want to focus on that fight. We’re ready for it; we accept the challenge and we believe we have the best possible chance of achieving a play-off place with Chris Wilder leading the squad as Head Coach.
Let’s focus in on trying to achieve three points today before the final part of the season begins in a fortnight’s time with our April fixtures.
