Thriving in the Watford side and enjoying her football, Annie Rossiter was delighted with the Hornets’ consistency in front of goal in their 5-0 win over MK Dons on Sunday [March 26].

The forward assisted Dré Georgiou’s goal just 34 seconds into the match, as Gemma Davison, Poppy Wilson and Sophie McLean found the target in a first-half salvo in Buckinghamshire.

The Golden Girls have been quick off the mark on several occasions this season, with Rossiter pleased to continue a rich vein of form that sees them maintain a push for top spot in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

“It was a really good performance, with three quick goals; that’s how we want to start a game!” smiled Rossiter, 21.

“I don’t remember [the first goal] too well! I cut inside and slotted it to Dré [Georgiou] and it was a great finish. She’s racking up the goals now.”

Five goals up at the break, Head Coach Damon Lathrope was positive in his half-time team talk and the Hornets kept up their work rate in the second 45, keeping a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

Rossiter started the game at the apex of attack but drifted wide and even ended up in holding midfield for the final knockings of the game, and is happy to play anywhere on the pitch if called upon to do so.

“[Lathrope] applauded the first half but we didn’t want to take our foot off the gas,” Rossiter continued. “We didn’t score in the second half but it was still a very good performance. We controlled the game so hopefully he’s pleased overall.

“I’ll play wherever he tells me to play! I’m happy when I’m playing well, and you couldn’t fault anybody today.”

Focused on top spot and the prospect of promotion, Rossiter is eager to keep up the free-flowing attacking form, as well as the defensive solidity that has seen them go a month without conceding in all competitions. An overnight stay before their next game away at Plymouth Argyle [Sunday April 2] awaits next.

“We know where we want to be at the end of the season, and we know we’ve got to perform like that for the rest of the season now,” asserted Rossiter. “We’ll take that, watch the analysis on Tuesday and take it into Plymouth and the rest of the season.

“We always want to bring the intensity in training and it’s been really good, so we’ll train with intensity, do our analysis and have a little sleepover!”
