The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.
Next to take on the questions is highly-rated midfielder Jordan Fankwe.
The 20-year-old joined the Young Hornets in January 2023 after a successful trial - having previously enjoyed a five-year spell at Nottingham Forest - and he has since featured regularly for Omer Riza’s Under-21s.
How would you describe your playing style?
I would say I’m someone who destroys and breaks up play. I like to make tackles and win the ball. I see myself playing in centre-midfield as a holding player, certainly focusing more on the defence. I look up to Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City and try to take elements out of his game.
Your footballing idol?
When I was younger, I watched Claude Makélélé. He was a really strong player, really good on the ball and he was a soldier for the team. That was something that I really liked because I try to be solid for the team and replicate his attributes.
Biggest influence?
I would say that when I first came to England, I met someone called Patrick from Nottingham Forest. He was the first person that I met when I came to England, and everywhere I have been he has been so important in my life and career. He has always helped me and given me great advice.
Most talented teammate?
Ryan Andrews is extremely talented. His pace is unbelievable. He is really fast and can play with the ball as well. He has everything as a full-back.
Favourite football memory?
When I first signed my contract with Nottingham Forest, my first club, I couldn’t believe that I could play football and get to that level. To say that I’m a footballer was really surreal. I used to watch some of those Nottingham Forest players playing on TV and then it was unbelievable to actually be in training with them.
Your aims for the future?
I would hope to achieve my goal of playing in the Premier League and playing for my national team, Cameroon.
Best advice you’ve received?
Always believe in yourself, whatever anyone says. Football can be up and down, but just believe in yourself.
Your job if you weren’t a footballer?
I would be a strength and conditioning coach. I think that’s the closest I can get to actually being involved on the pitch.
How would you rate yourself on FIFA?
Pace 76 - I’m not too fast, but I can be quick when needed.
Shooting 73 - My shooting isn’t great, but I have scored one or two decent goals.
Passing 82 - My passing is good, but I’m working on it.
Dribbling 71 - I’m not really a dribbler!
Defending 87 - Defending is an art and it’s a big part of my game.
Physicality 87- I pride myself on my physical preparation.
OVERALL – 78
