Despite their lowly league position, last season’s play-off finalists Huddersfield arrive at The Vic in fine form, having secured seven points from their last three games and given themselves a good chance of avoiding the drop to League One.

Results have picked up since veteran boss Neil Warnock became the Terriers’ third manager of the campaign in February, and since securing a home draw against Norwich in mid-March they have beaten promotion hopefuls Millwall and Middlesbrough in their last two games.

Still in the bottom three as it stands - but level on points with 21st-placed Cardiff - the Yorkshiremen will be looking to extend their unbeaten run and power their way to safety in the remaining seven games of the season.

• Watford have won four of their last five league games against Huddersfield Town - including the reverse fixture at the end of 2022 - losing the other game 2-0 in December 2020.

• Huddersfield have failed to score in their previous two league meetings with the Golden Boys (L2); they’ve never gone three games or more without scoring against them in the Football League.

• Since a 2-0 defeat to Millwall on Boxing Day, Watford are unbeaten in their last seven league games at Vicarage Road (W3 D4); the Hornets haven’t started a calendar year with a longer unbeaten home run since 1978 (13 games).

Watford Head Coach Chris Wilder said during his pre-match press conference: “We know the injury history over the course of the season hasn’t been good, but we have had players come back in.

“There were a couple of bumps and bruises from the weekend, but we will still have a decent bench, and we might have to leave some players out of the matchday squad.”

For Huddersfield Town, Duane Holmes is out for the rest of the season after picking up an ankle injury, while the game might come too soon for Martyn Waghorn.

“Huddersfield Town will be dangerous opponents for us. It will be a difficult Championship game with two teams fighting for different reasons. Their form recently has been good, with an away win at Millwall – you can’t get away from that – and a win against Middlesbrough who are a form team.

“They will come as players who are buoyed from what happened last Saturday and they will want to continue that because their fight is a big one to stay in the division.”

“It's two tough games against Watford and Blackburn. You enjoy the victories then move on. It's so quick, the next few weeks, and we've got four of the next five away from home.

“We've got to try and hang in there now points wise with the other clubs. Two games in four days is difficult with the travelling as well, but we've just got to do it.”
