The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.
Next to take on the questions is highly-rated defender Tom Georgiou.
While he currently features for the Under-16s, Georgiou has broken into Charlie Daniels’ Under-18 side this campaign, including featuring in the FA Youth Cup.
How would you describe your playing style?
I’m comfortable and patient on the ball as a centre-back. I like to play through the thirds, but my main aim is to stop goals. I like playing out from the back, that’s a key aspect of my game.
Your footballing idol?
I’ve got three players that I like to look up to. On the ball Andrea Pirlo, and then defensively John Terry and Rio Ferdinand. Terry for his defensive ability and Ferdinand for his ability on the ball.
Biggest influence?
Definitely my dad. He introduced football to myself and my older brother, so he has been key to my journey.
Most talented teammate?
Harry Amass is a very good player. He is quick, powerful and a technical left-back. Also, I would say Leo Ramirez-Espain, who is a very technical midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball. I enjoy playing alongside him and he receives the ball really well.
Favourite football memory?
The Floodlit Cup last year where we beat Fulham in the semi-final. They were a very good team to play against, but we scored a few screamers and managed to get past them.
Your aims for the future?
I want to play first-team football as high up the football pyramid as possible.
Best advice you’ve received?
You’re only as good as your next game. You have to keep performing. You can’t just get carried away or too low on one performance.
Your job if you weren’t a footballer?
I would probably go down the coaching route in football or maybe a trade as a plumber.
