Hassane Kamara stressed Watford could have few complaints with their 1-0 defeat away at Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship - his 50th game for the Golden Boys.

An Ozan Tufan penalty proved the difference between the two sides in a match of few clear-cut chances, with the Hornets contributing two of the three shots on target throughout the 90 minutes.

Defender Kamara explained there was a thirst among the squad to come out fighting following midweek disappointment at home to Cardiff, and though he and his teammates produced an improved display, he was ultimately frustrated with the final score.

“Today before the game we wanted to show pride and come out and win the game, to spark a good finish to the season,” the 29-year-old said. “We weren’t able to do that, and it’s very disappointing for us and for the fans.

“I can’t say that we deserved more from the game - I think we deserved what we got. We didn’t do the right things, and although they didn’t have loads of chances, ultimately we didn’t stop them scoring so we can’t be happy.

“We need to be better at the fine details, in defence and in attack. We need to reflect and take on the feedback, because it’s not been good enough.”

Among a few contentious decisions during the game, Hull were awarded a penalty when Ryan Andrews felled Regan Slater, and Watford were denied a spot-kick when the ball appeared to strike the arm of Jean Michaël Seri.

Kamara said: “It was disappointing to concede the penalty, but as a team we have to be more focused on the details.

“Maybe we should have had one as well, but sometimes decisions go against you and you can’t dwell on them. It’s up to us to find another way to get something from the game, so we cannot hide behind decisions made by the referee.”

With just two games of 2022/23 remaining, Chris Wilder’s charges next travel up to Sunderland for their final away trip of the campaign (Saturday April 29, 3pm KO), and - with a home game against Stoke also to come - Kamara is determined to sign off for the summer by giving the supporters something to smile about.

The Ivory Coast international added: “We have to carry on right to the end, because for now the season is still alive. We will do everything we can for the supporters, and so we can finish with our heads held high.”
