The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.

Next to take on the questions is highly-rated midfielder Leo Ramirez-Espain.

While he currently features for the Under-16s, Ramirez-Espain has broken into Charlie Daniels’ Under-18 side on a number of occasions during the 2022/23 campaign.

How would you describe your playing style?
I see myself as a ball-playing midfielder who is comfortable in tight situations. I like to increase the tempo of the game, but I’m not the most direct player. In terms of inspirations, I look at Rodri because he has a wide range of attributes, and he increases the tempo of the team.

Your footballing idol?
I would say Andrés Iniesta. I think his ability to change the game both on and off the ball with his vision and everything was perfect. His passing range was perfect.

Biggest influence?
Definitely my dad. At a young age, I knew it was a dream of mine to be a professional footballer and he has pushed me to try and achieve my goal.

Most talented teammate?
There are some really talented players to choose from. I’ll go with Zavier Massiah-Edwards because of his change of pace and the way he can win the game in one magical moment.

Favourite football memory?
The Floodlit Cup last year, in a group game against Norwich City. We were 2-0 down, we needed to win the game and with eight minutes to go we came back and scored three goals - I got the assist for the last-minute winner.

Your aims for the future?
In the near future, I’m looking forward to more Under-18 football and Under-21 football. Then obviously in the coming couple of years I would love to make my first-team debut.

Best advice you’ve received?
Just because you aren’t the centre of attention, such as not scoring goals, don’t think that people don’t recognise what you’re doing.

Your job if you weren’t a footballer?
Being an agent would be pretty cool, or just being in and around sport in general.
