Watford FC and our Community, Sports & Education Trust continue to support Learning Disability Week by demonstrating the incredible things that people with learning disabilities achieve, smashing misconceptions about what people can do and shining a light on the stigma many still face every day.

In particular, the Trust’s Premier League Inspires programme - which is curriculum-based and available free to all secondary schools or educational establishments - helps to encourage and empower young people to fulfil their potential and raise aspirations.

A big part of this includes working with young people who face barriers to their education, such as mental health conditions, physical and learning disabilities, or environmental factors to develop personal, social, employability and life skills.

Lucy Tearle, Community Project Manager for Young People at the Trust, said: “We have been working with partner agencies and schools to ensure our delivery, training and resources are fully inclusive to support young people with a learning disability and create an environment where everyone can become an ally to stand up and empower others using wide-ranging practices.”

This has resulted in 35 per cent of our referred participants having a disability, including delivery in five special educational needs schools in the local area.
