All at Watford FC were deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Cliff Vassiliou, a long-time Hornets supporter whose relationship with the club goes back many decades.

Cliff’s family have issued an open invitation to anyone who would like to join them in paying their respects, with the funeral set to be held on Thursday June 23. The service is due to start at 1pm at All Saints Church in Croxley Green, followed by a committal at Woodcock Hill Cemetery in Rickmansworth (2.30pm), and a reception at Harefield United FC on Breakspear Road (3.30pm).

Richard Johnson, Watford FC Academy Director and former player, paid tribute to Cliff:

“So sad to hear the news that Cliffy has passed away,” he said. “I have personally known Cliff since I was a youth team player here at the club. He absolutely loved the football club and he represented everything the club was about.

“He always spoke about the values and the community spirit that Graham Taylor entrenched in every player that played for the club. He was a massive advocate of the Academy and he used to speak with me at every home game where he used to bring club legend and Hall of Famer Tom Walley.

“Cliff will be sorely missed and on behalf of everyone involved with the Academy I would like to send our condolences to his family and friends. RIP Legend.”
