The fixture list for the 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season is now in the calendar, with a feast of exciting matches to look forward to from August to May.

Following the schedule’s confirmation, we take a look at the key stats associated with Watford’s upcoming opponents…

Distance

12 - Although Luton Town are widely considered to be the Hornets’ biggest rivals, the distance between Vicarage Road and Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road (12 miles) is the shortest. However, the Hatters’ Kenilworth Road is a shorter road distance than the west-London side, 18.9 miles compared to 19.7 miles.

369 - Sunderland’s Stadium of Light is the furthest distance from Vicarage Road, with an air distance of 369 miles. The Hornets make the long trip north on Saturday April 29, the penultimate game of the season.

Capacity

49,000 - When Watford visit the Stadium of Light, they will play at the biggest ground in this term’s Championship, with a stadium capacity of 49,000.

10,073 - Watford’s opponents on October 22 (home) and April 1 (away), Luton, have the smallest-capacity stadium in the second tier.

Championship Reunion

This season will see the Hornets play against two sides for the first time since 2015. Wigan Athletic and Blackpool last shared a division with Watford in the Golden Boys’ 2014/15 promotion campaign, as Slaviša Jokanović’s side completed a league double over both clubs.

Watford face the Latics in Greater Manchester on October 29, and at home on March 18. The Tangerines take on Rob Edwards’ Hornets at Bloomfield Road on October 8, and at Vicarage Road on January 14.

2 - The only London sides in the Championship this term are Queens Park Rangers and Millwall, the fewest number of London-based teams in Watford’s league since 2009/10 (also two). The Hornets make their trips to the capital on March 11 and October 18 respectively.

Old Adversary

4 - Norwich City will share a division with the Hornets for the fourth successive season, having played in the Premier League in the 2019/20 and 2021/22 campaigns. The Canaries, alongside Watford, formed the Championship top two in 2020/21, and both teams will be hoping for a similar outcome this term.

Opening Day Hopes

8 - Watford have lost just one of their last 15 opening day fixtures, a 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2019. The Hornets have won eight of those games, stretching back to the 2007/08 campaign.
