After a positive start to life at Vicarage Road, Watford Head Coach Rob Edwards is hoping to maintain momentum going into a hotly-anticipated clash against Burnley (August 12, 8pm KO).

The Watford boss is eager to play in front of the Hornets faithful once again, after experiencing an electric atmosphere during the opening day victory against Sheffield United.

Excited to face the Clarets and their new manager Vincent Kompany, Edwards was complimentary of the next opponents to take their place in the away dugout at The Vic.

“Vincent Kompany is a Premier League legend and a legend in this country for what he has done in the top flight and with his national team,” Edwards opened.

“I have huge respect for what he did as a player and as a man as well, because I like the way he talks. I like what he stands for and he seems like a genuine, really good person. He has made a really good start to his coaching career which I’m sure he will be really successful in as well.

“They have made some changes [in their playing style] and I have heard him talking about keeping a lot of the things that made Burnley difficult to play against throughout the years, but he also wants to bring his own stamp on things. He has been very successful with that so far in the first couple of games.

“We know it will be a difficult game, they all are because they all bring their different challenges and threats.”

Looking back on an important point earned on the road at West Bromwich Albion, the Hornets boss believes that the result is hugely significant in building for the season ahead.

“It is a good result, there is no doubt about it,” he said. “If we had gone there and completely dominated the game, which I know we didn’t, it still would’ve been a good point.

“If you look at how the game went, it was a good draw. Going to West Brom, who are a very good team, it doesn’t matter how you play in the end. If you come away with a point, it’s a good point.”

Following the news that Tom Dele-Bashiru will miss a couple of months of action after suffering a knee ligament injury, Watford’s midfield has been bolstered by the new arrival Hamza Choudhury.

Edwards is excited by the recent addition and is hopeful that he can play an important role.

“Hamza [Choudhury] will bring a real pedigree and I think he is first of all an outstanding young person,” Edwards continued.

“He is a really good guy and I have spoken to him in the build-up of bringing him in and then meeting him properly – he is an outstanding guy and will help us as a person.

“He also brings lots of qualities on the pitch and he is very good with the ball. He is an outstanding athlete, tenacious, and selfless in his work and he will be a very good addition to the squad.

“He is someone who I have been keen to bring in, especially with Tom Dele-Bashiru being out for a couple of months, but Hamza is someone who we have been keen on for a while.”
