Watford FC Community, Sports and Education Trust’s foundation degree in Football Development & Coaching still has places available for aspiring students, with clearing open ahead of the fresh academic year.
Launched during the pandemic in 2020, the degree is a two-year programme that combines academic study with practical work-based learning, in partnership with Middlesex University.
The course was developed to enable students to learn about a variety of football-based roles including coaching, community development and sports science. Throughout their studies they also have access to opportunities to gain real-life industry experience in these roles, massively increasing their employability prospects upon graduation.
Studies will take place either with the Trust at Vicarage Road or at the community hub in Harrow Weald, with one day a week at Middlesex University. Students will benefit from the partnership with Middlesex by gaining access to all the support and services the university has to offer, while being taught by industry professionals who work or have worked in the field.
Foundation degrees are a great choice for people who want to gain practical experience alongside their degree, and who perhaps don’t see themselves studying via the traditional route.
After your two-year foundation degree, you have the option to either continue a year of studies with Middlesex University to top-up to a BA (Hons) degree, or go straight into employment, often in roles attained through student placements.
After setting up and recruiting a new course during the pandemic, the Trust is extremely proud to have recently seen the first cohort of graduates complete the programme, many of whom have chosen to continue their studies and top-up to a full degree.
Now entering its third year, the degree has grown consistently in both development and popularity. There are still a limited number of places available for 2022 entry, and it’s not too late to apply!
We are hosting an open day at Vicarage Road, including a stadium tour, at 11am on Thursday September 1. If you would like to book a place on the open day or contact the programme leader to register your interest in the course, please get in touch with Laura Figg HERE, or visit the website HERE.
