Welcome to the Beat People Hi-Fi podcast. We play jamaican music from the 60’s to the early 80’s, including Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Roots, Rockers and Rub A Dub. Here you can listen and download some of our riddim sessions. Most of our sets features differents versions of a single riddim, with singers, deejays and dub style. Tunes are mixed live on vinyls by Dj Dubberfly and his operator Madlegzer in a “combination style” with two turntables, a mixer, effects, skills and love. Written by Augustus Pablo for Clive Chin in 1969, Java is one of the most famous riddim from the melodica king. As usual, we start the set with the Studio One versions, The Wailing Souls (Grill Up The Love) in combination with Prince Francis and Cedric Im Brooks (Ethiopia). Then comes the Augustus Pablo versions with deejays I Roy, Dennis Alcapone and Trinity.

Originally recorded by Little Willie John in 1956, this song has been covered by many artists from various musical genres over the years. Lee Scratch Perry cut some versions by the mid 70's at the Black Ark Studio. This set starts with the classic vocal version from Junior Byles and Susan Cadogan, followed by Milton Henry, Jah Lion and Augustus Pablo with The Upsetters.

Another classic Studio One riddim from 1968-69, originally "Mean Girl" by Larry Marshall, versioned by many artists over the years. This set starts with "Roof over my head" by Sugar Minott in combination with Little Joe's "Gun Court", followed by the Barry Brown's "Sweet Music" version, then comes the "Meany Roots" dub version from the Soul Vendors. Strictly Studio One style…

DECLARATION OF RIGHTS
A deep roots riddim written by The Abyssinians in 1969 for Studio One. This set starts with the deejay version from Big Joe in combination with the Abyssinians. Then comes the wicked "Dub of Rights" from King Tubby & Prince Jammy with some of Johnny Clarke's vocals. On this dub version you can hear some Barry Brown's vocals and also some parts of the Cedric Im Brooks instrumental version.

A solid track produced by Lloyd Charmers with the Barrett's brothers on drums & bass, Reggie Lewis & Ranny Bop on guitar and Lloyd himself on keyboards. The set starts with Tall and The Touchers "Touching the President", followed by the "Prime Minister" version from I.Roy, then the percussionist Bongo Herman close the session with his "Vice President" instrumental version.

Drum Song is one of the heaviest roots riddim created by the great Jackie Mittoo for Coxsone in 1967. This set starts at Studio One with the Devon Russell vocal version alongside Sound Dimension. Then comes the Attack Gold session with Madoo & Jah Stitch followed by Ranking Toyan. The keyboard king Jackie Mittoo close the session with King Tubby in a dub style.
