The TARDIS takes the Ninth Doctor to a travelling circus in Nebraska, shortly after the American Civil War. He befriends Mona the Bearded Lady, and learns that the circus is haunted by a ghostly, blind Pierrot; the terrifying creature has been abducting visitors to the circus, and has frightened the carnies into silence.
