September is recognised globally as Deaf Awareness month, as it was declared by the World Federation of the Deaf in 1951. One of the aims of this month is to raise awareness around the inclusion of the deaf community in the wider society. Many organisations are using the month to highlight many issues facing the deaf community. The Safer South Africa Foundation is highlighting the challenges faced by the deaf community in accessing the criminal justice system, in fact they held a silent walk this past Friday to raise awareness on this issue. Joining us for more on this is Pitso Mereko, the Provincial Coordinator of Safer South Africa Foundation in the Free State.
