PHONE INTERVIEW WITH: Koketso Lediga, author Kole Meets Mama Winnie’s Southern African Friends (Illustrated by: David “slaying goliath” Tshabalala) - a historical fiction (based on true event and meant to teach kids history in a fun and imaginative way). BOOK SUMMARY: The books tells the story of Kole, a little girl who is surprised by her mother with a beach holiday. Kole usually spends her school holidays with her cousins. She had braced herself for a boring and lonely holiday but makes an imaginary friend that turns out to be Winnie Madikizela-Mandela (Kole calls her mama Winnie) who keeps her company and introduces her to some of her friends from South Africa, Mozambique and Botswana. Kole spends hers days talking to Mme Charlotte Mxeke, Ntate Samora Michal, Ntate Steve Biko, Mme Victoria Mxenge, Ntate Robert Sobukwe and Ntate Seretse Khama This new friendship leaves Kole with a better understanding of some southern Africa’s history and, most importantly, what it means to live a life of purpose.” ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Koketso Lediga is a lawyer, reading activist and entrepreneur from Atteridgeville.
