Some people heavily guard family recipes, while others widely share the ingredients for their culinary bliss. We asked some New Yorkers to share a story about a family recipe they think is too good to keep under wraps. Manhattan resident Laura Simms shared a tale about her mother's Matzo brei recipe, along with sharing the recipe itself:
Supplies:
One medium sized mixing bowlOne skilletOne fork
Ingredients:
Five large eggs 4 Matzos One half stick of butter Salt A quarter litre of whole milk
Directions:
Soak Matzos thoroughly in waterShake off excess water Break eggs into large bowl and add milk and salt. Then, stirCrumble pieces or lay whole matzo slices into the bowl until well coveredMelt butter on skillet at high temperaturePour drenched matzo mixture into skilletThe Matzo Brie is done when the eggs are cooked loosely, not hardened.Put on plate and drench in any toppings including apricot jam, sugar, or cottage cheese
