- About Rs 29 crore in cash and five kilograms of gold jewelry recovered from the second flat of Arpita Mukherjee in Kolkata, a close aide of arrested West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, during a raid conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a school jobs scam, officials say. The probe agency officials left Arpita Mukherjee's home in the Belgharia area of Kolkata early this morning with 10 trunks of cash after concluding an an18-hour raid. Sources say that ED officials used three note-counting machines to know the exact amount of cash seized from Ms Mukherjee's second flat. 2. Twenty suspended Rajya Sabha members Wednesday started a 50-hour relay protest inside the Parliament complex, with sources saying the Opposition declined the Chairman's offer that they express regret over their members' behaviour in the House to get the suspension revoked. They were later joined by four Congress MPs who have also been suspended from Lok Sabha for remainder of the Monsoon session. The 20 MPs, suspended over Monday and Tuesday, include seven from the Trinamool, six from the DMK, three from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, two from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and one each from the Communist Party of India and the Aam Aadmi Party. 3. The Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray files another petition in the Supreme Court against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla over the removal of their MPs from Lok Sabha posts. The petition calls for their reinstatement and cancellation of the appointments made from the Eknath Shinde faction, including that of Rahul Shewale as leader of Shiv Sena in the Lok Sabha. They have also asked for the removal of Bhavana Gawali as the party's chief whip, alleging that the appointments were made at the behest of MPs guilty of anti-party activities. 4. The US Federal Reserve again raises the benchmark interest rate by three-quarters of a percentage point in its ongoing battle to tamp down raging price pressures that are squeezing American families. Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says Europe and the Americas have been affected the most by the monkeypox outbreak. These two regions have reported 95 per cent of the diagnosed cases, he says, warning against stigma and discrimination in monkeypox messaging. He adds, over 18,000 monkeypox cases have been reported to the WHO from 78 countries. More than 70 per cent of these came from the European region and 25 per cent from the Americas. 6.
