In the Inuit communities of Nunavik, Northern Quebec, schools sometimes face teacher shortages. This pushes them to hire teachers from other parts of Canada, ie. "the South." In this episode of Talking TESL, Sivan is joined again by Sebastien, a graduate of Concordia University’s TESL program, to discuss his life-changing experience teaching in Nunavik for two years. They talk about becoming acquainted with Inuit culture in Kuujjuaq and his experiences with culture shock. Sebastien delves into the highs and lows of his time spent up north, and gives valuable advice for those wishing to do the same. This fascinating and insightful interview is for anyone curious about teaching in the Inuit communities in Nunavik, and for those interested in hearing candid discussions about the neocolonial aspects of TESL.
