Can you imagine forgetting where the beautiful cut flowers come from that adorn our tables and homes? Brendan Towell suggests cut flowers as a metaphor to examine what happens when people have forgotten God. Ultimately, we lose the benefits of our Christian civilization. The difficulty is that man has placed his autonomy, a false sense of freedom, above God. It is as if we can choose or create the truth – imagining that our floral decorations will last forever. If we do not know that they are grown before they are cut, we have a problem. But to prevent the loss of the gifts coming from Christ, we must each recognize our dependence on Him and then help others to appreciate this too.
