For millennia, a river in eastern Taiwan has been patiently gouging away at layers of marble, carving out a deep, narrow gorge that twists between mountains and cliffs until finally tumbling out into the Pacific. This is Taroko Gorge, one of the wonders of Taiwan and one of the island’s most visited sights. The gorge is the centerpiece of Taroko National Park on Taiwan’s east coast and it’s the park’s most popular attraction.
