When it comes to culture and history, few places in Taiwan can compete with the southern city of Tainan. The place has long fascinated local and outsiders, but it wasn't until the 20th century when people began taking new sciences and disciplines and seeing what new information they could yield. A new exhibit at the National Museum of Taiwan History looks back on early pioneers of what could be called "Tainan Studies".
