Demonstrations against the Hong Kong anti-extradition law occurred in March and have continued until today as Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam refused to withdraw the bill, but rather, she said she suspended the law in June and added that the law is “dead” in July. Protests have continued and peaceful demonstrations have intensified and escalated into confrontations with the police. Many fear that if the bill is passed, it would allow local authorities to detain and extradite those who are wanted in territories that Hong Kong does not have agreements with including China and Taiwan.
