Anna Lowder is a co-founder and director of Hampstead, a New Urbanist community located in Montgomery, Alabama. Together with her husband, Harvi Sahota, Lowder moved to Montgomery from London, England, in 2005, where the couple set out to contribute to the revitalization of urban areas and historic city centers. After restoring a warehouse in Downtown Montgomery to lofts and commercial space, they redeveloped a former A&P Grocery site in a Montgomery neighborhood. For their efforts on The A&P, the couple received an international design award, the 2008 Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) Charter Award – the first awarded in Alabama. They would go on to receive the 2011 CNU Charter Award for Hampstead.
While establishing Hampstead, the couple founded Mercer Home, a development company focused on creating "forever homes" of long-term value in Hampstead, where residences vary from town homes and condominiums, to spacious courtyard plans and large estate homes.
Lowder graduated Summa Cum Laude from American University in London, England with a Bachelor of Arts in Design; and, Cum Laude from Boston University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Print Journalism. She is a member of the National Town Builders Association, the Congress for the New Urbanism, and a TedX Dexter Avenue presenter. Together with her husband and two children, Lowder resides in Hampstead and Alys Beach.
