As God has made a gift of new life to Mary, a life no longer contaminated by vice, this new life is actually something in which we share by our common humanity with the Mother of God, and through our baptism...her spiritual triumph is ours as well, so there is no need for envy at her exalted state, nor is there reason to imagine fretfully that her sinlessness separates her from us and our experience. In fact, her preservation from sin could be a spur to us to imitate her by regular reflection on our baptism, our own immaculate re-birth. St. Paul says God chose 'each' of us to be holy and without blemish, chosen before the foundation of the world...our very creation was for this purpose: to live a holy and innocent life in praise of God, in joy and peace.
