Northern Techno's Alex Glass writes about this driving techno mix for CDM, produced in Ukraine on the eve of the war:

"Hard techno for hard times. So it happened I recorded this mix literally a few hours before the war, at the very beginning of that fateful night on February 24, at the dawn of which Putin's troops launched an invasion of Ukraine. Thus, it turned out to be a kind of bridge between the usual normal and peaceful life and that terrifying new reality, where instead of a beat, the sounds of shots sound, and the sky is illuminated not by strobe lights, but by flashes of rockets falling. At the moment, music remains for me the main and most important outlet, allowing me not to go crazy from everything that happens. I hope that this mix will make the mood of some of the listeners at least a little better. Thank you for your attention. Fuck war. Invaders must die. Support Ukraine & love each other."

To demonstrate how much diversity a single ring mod/FM patch can create, we messed around with parameters - just adjusting tuning, sync, and filter. You can hear that single patch can produce a range of timbres - some you'll love, some you'll hate, but plenty to choose from musically. Thanks to Lars Hemmerling for the inspiration. All MeeBlip anodes now shipping include a special wavetable mode. Here's what they sound like.

With 16 new wavetables, tap into rough-and-raw 16-bit single-cycle waveforms like blended sawtooth, granular, and FM, plus glitchy bit-reduced and distorted sounds for a whole new variety of sounds. And as we are open source, that firmware is now up on our GitHub site.

Hold down MIDI select on the back when powering up, and unlock new sounds. Choose the sweep switch to change banks, then turn "width" to select one of the wavetables.

Binaural recordings of the Spatial Sound Hacklab we hosted at 4DSOUND during ADE, in collaboration with Fiber, Liine, and Ableton. These are rough recordings of a live performance; as they're binaural, headphones are required - also available in conventional stereo. You'll of course be unable to hear most of the effects here, but have some rough idea of the musical content of this project, created in just two days.

Full description:

During Amsterdam Dance Event the 4DSOUND team invited Peter Kirn (CDM), Ableton, Liine and ourselves to realise an inspiring 2-day hack-session. Embedded within a larger programme at the Compagnietheater, 25 sound creators had the opportunity to explore the 4DSOUND system, work on spatial sound composing and finally perform their work.

MeeBlip anode owner Andrius Mamontovas sent us this rather wicked creation - produced with our MeeBlip anode synth and nothing else. Lovely work.

He writes: "I immediately recorded a little piece of music with it. All the sounds are generated with Anode Meeblip. I just slightly added some reverb, delay, gate, compression and EQ."

The fact that it comes from one of Lithuania's greatest rock musicians is just icing on the cake. (Andrius Mamontovas has had a terrific solo career, among other things, and is also the founder of Foje.)

MeeBlip synth + LFO set to square wave, routed to pitch + LFO randomization + filter with resonance kicked up = evil basslines.

Recorded with the Moogerfooger Filtatron app, which - with unneeded effects turned off - becomes a really handy mobile recording solution.

A demo of a bassline, performed and recorded entirely on the MeeBlip - no processing whatsoever, just the MeeBlip's sound at work

By MeeBlip creator James Grahame

Sound samples from MeeBlip, the hackable, open-source digital synthesizer designed by James Grahame.

Just some raw samples - no effects, no processing, no sequencing. Playing a live MIDI keyboard input into a single MeeBlip, and seeing what blippery happens.

Listen for the MeeBlip's two-oscillator virtual analog goodness, LFO, oscillator noise and distortion (some of which gives it a decidedly chippy air), etc.
