Can you believe that the fall semester is just around the corner?
As you prepare for the upcoming academic year, there are some important things to keep in mind depending on where you are in your law school journey. This month, we are going to focus on specific recommendations for law students at each stage of your law school career.
If you are getting ready for your 1L year:
- Get organized and get your life together! We are going to share tips for how to streamline your life and make sure you have a good foundation to go on.
- Do some hard things! Read something hard, learn a new hobby – get used to pushing yourself and using a growth mindset.
- Take Care of Yourself! You need a healthy body and mind to do well in law school.
If you are getting ready for your 2L year:
- Start researching internship/job opportunities and prepare your resume, cover letters, and interview skills.
- Consider joining a law journal, moot court, or clinic to gain practical legal experience. If you didn’t get on the law review, remember there are many other opportunities you can check out.
- Think about networking!
If you are getting ready for your 3L year:
- Finalize and execute your post-graduation job search strategy. Polish your resume and cover letters.
- Start thinking about your bar exam plan for the following summer and make sure you know when you are going to sit for the MPRE.
- Enjoy your final year and continue building connections for future referrals and opportunities while making sure you take care of all the things to graduate!
It may seem a little silly to start thinking about these items in June, but the summer goes by incredibly fast, so always wise to plan ahead. However, do take some time to rest, travel, read a book, watch some movies and rejuvenate yourself for the year to come.
Wonder what I am reading this month?
- The Anxious Generation – Jonathan Haidt. This book is really thought provoking for anyone raised in the time of the phone-based childhood or currently raising kids (or planning to have kids). I highly recommend it!
