Welcome back to another school year! It’s hard to believe it’s September already. As my garden overflows with tomatoes and the days grow shorter, we’re gearing up for an exciting month of content focused on “Becoming a Professional.”

As law students, it’s easy to get caught up in books and exams, sometimes forgetting that you’re training to become lawyers. I remember standing in front of my closet before my 1L summer internship wondering how to dress myself for work after a year of being a student. (And, I had even been a professional before law school!). We often don’t picture ourselves in the workplace until we are getting ready to walk in the door.

This month, we’ll explore what that really means, featuring special guests who’ll share insights on beginning your professional life.

Here’s what we have in store:

1. Dressing for Success — We’re welcoming Alison Bruhn and Delia Folk, creators of “The Style that Binds Us,” to discuss finding your professional style on a budget. They’ll help you navigate appropriate attire that feels comfortable and authentically you.

2. Professional Perspectives — We have a lineup of fascinating professionals discussing their expertise and recent publications:

• Petra Molnar on her book “The Walls Have Eyes: Surviving Migration in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”
• Jim Brosnahan sharing insights from “Justice at Trial” on becoming an effective trial lawyer
• Anne Ditmeyer, discussing her book “Override” about finding happiness and satisfaction in work and life (including intriguing exercises like “Banana Mapping”!)

These discussions will help you think beyond academics and consider what kind of professional you want to be in the world.

What am I reading? With summer winding down, I’ve had less time for reading, and I false started a book I didn’t enjoy. However, I’m planning a social media break to dive back into books. I’m currently finishing

• “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.
