Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says credit must go to his chairman John Comitis on the braveness he showed last season when appointing McCarthy in his first head coach role. After 474 days of his appointment, McCarthy lifted his first trophy as a coach, as City beat SuperSport United in the MTN8 final in Durban two weeks ago. But while McCarthy admits it was a risk for Comitis to appoint him at the time, he says it was a calculated risk as McCarthy has been spending the past few years re-educating himself as a coach, and getting his UEFA Pro Licence.
