Former professional footballers around the world have taken their rightful place in football administration with some going as far as leading their respective Football Associations. And there’s been that call in the past that the South African football Association (SAFA) should follow suit. But it hasn’t been the case yet with some of them only being co-opted to serve in the sub-committees and others like Neil Tovey appointed as Technical Directors. But former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas “Rhoo” Radebe says the time has come for him to serve in the elected structure of the SAFA National Executive Committee (NEC). The next SAFA elections will be held next year in September and it’s still not clear at this stage if the incumbent Danny Jordaan will be facing any challenge for the Presidential seat. SABC Sport has heard that there could be some competition that is brewing but it’s not clear at this stage on which side Radebe could be standing. He says he ready for the next step.
