The South African Football Association (SAFA) is ready to root out corruption in the local game by charging match officials who are implicated in match fixing and bribery allegations. SABC Sport can reveal that six match officials on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) panel are expected to be charged today by the SAFA Disciplinary Committee. This relates to last year’s ABC Motsepe League national play-offs played in Bloemfontein. The six match officials have already been suspended by SAFA and are not officiating any matches. SAFA CEO Dennis Mumble. By later today, these six match officials would be formerly charged and face counts of match fixing, misconduct, corruption and bringing SAFA into disrepute. There have been a lot of cases of corruption in football in the past but no action was taken but Mumble has more on why this time this is an operation with a difference. He says fortunately they had been briefing Mbalula when he was still at his old post and he’s fully aware of what’s happening. Criminal charges are also set to follow according to Mumble as they are working together with the police and Hawks on this.
