Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says it would have been nice to have all his players for their – including Erick “Tower” Mathoho – who will be attending a family bereavement of his brother. Amakhosi will lock-horns with Ajax Cape Town in Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium on the 5th of October. Komphela says although it was international FIFA break, he used the break to work on various phases of their style such as speed and finishing. Amakhosi got an opportunity to play in the Sparta Macufe Cup against Bloemfontein Celtics where they won 4-1 and Komphela says he is happy with the performance showed by the fringe players. Komphela says he was prompted to work on speed and finishing because their offensive play was not smooth despite playing good football. Chiefs are currently leading the log with ten points from five games while a team like Mamelodi Sundowns has played only one due to their CAF Champions League commitments. The former U/23 mentor says he will be happy with the three points, try stay at the top of the log and not focus on other teams’ run in the league. Last season, Amakhosi lost 1-nil to the Urban Warriors in the final of the MTN8 while their two fixtures ended in 1-all draw and a goalless draw. Komphela promised goals in this game following his team’s free-scoring prowess lately. He says he is happy with the fringe players but he will try to remain consistent with his player selection.
