Approximately 15 years after last reaching the African Champions League final, Mamelodi Sundowns will meet Egyptian giants Zamalek in the continental cup’s final next month. This follows Sundowns 2-0 win over Zambia side Zesco United in the 2nd leg semi-final played at Lucas Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville last night to clinch this tie 3-2 on aggregate. An early goal from Anthony Laffor and Percy Tau second half diving header were enough to add to Khama Billiat’s crucial away goal from last week. Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane is happy to have reached the final but acknowledges that nothing has been achieved yet. As the clock was winding down, Sundowns stood firm in it’s defensive organization and the key part to their game plan with the score at 2-0 was to keep ball possession and restrict Zamalek to the intermediate zone. Mosimane says continental football has taught them all these tricks and tactical. This has been a big week for Laffor, last week he provided an assist for Billiat’s goal, midweek he scored the only goal as Sundowns beat Chippa United 1-0 reach the MTN 8 final where they play Bidvest Wits at Mbombela stadium next weekend. Mosimane looks at the pivotal role played by the Liberian international but also remembers that the away goal was key in this result.
