Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says modern day football requires players who poses a lot of energy and speed. Komphela says although the youngsters are inexperienced at times, they’re at least the players who are able to give the coach the pace and oomph throughout the game and the trend is even seen on international stages. Chiefs off-loaded aging players including as Morgan Gould (33 years) and Siboniso Gaxa (32 years) among others and acquired younger players mostly under the age of 27-years. Komphela says he is willing to take the risk of playing young players and possibly make history with them. Chiefs, who have been struggling without a consistent goal scorer for the two previous seasons, might have found one in the prolific striker Lewis Macha. The Zambian international scored a beautiful header Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup. George Lebese was Chiefs’ top goal scorer with eight goals in all competitions last campaign while Mandla Masango was Glamour Boys’ sharp shooter with seven goals during the 2014/15 season. The much travelled coach says he will field youngsters based on performance and merit.
