The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Executive Meeting has learn valuable lessons in the failed sale of Free State Stars status by a business consortium led by Gauteng MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi and would tighten their rules going forward. That was the response from the PSL chairman Irvin Khoza when confirming today that there would be no immediate return of Moroka Swallows into the top flight as the deal between the consortium and Stars was off. The change of name and relocation issue came up recently when Mpumalanga Black Aces was renamed Cape Town City and relocated to Cape Town from Gauteng/Mpumalanga. Khoza has more on this is applied. Another challenge with this Swallows failed return to the top flight is that the members of the consortium who wanted to buy Stars status were not known except Lesufi, a point that Khoza also emphasizes. After Swallows was relegated from the PSL in 2015 and again from the National First Division (NFD) in May, there had been a lot of hope that this consortium would help to return the club to the elite football. Sadly it wasn’t to be and it’s something that was also felt by the Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau.
