Former Orlando Pirates defender Edward Motale is excited by the prospect of rising Bafana Bafana star Abbubaker Mobara joining the club. Mobara has been one of the stand-out defenders in recent seasons and was a central figure as the Urban Warriors won the MTN8 last year. He also played a key role to help the country qualify for the Olympics. Mobara’s value is also three-fold considering the number of positions he can fill, whether it is across the back four or in midfield. Motale, a star defender in his prime, feels he is the type of player that will adapt well in Orlando. But he had some sound advice for the Cape Town-born player. Apart from Mobara, the Bucs have also concluded deals for his former Ajax team-mate and winger Riyaad Norodien. Other high-profile new faces at the club are forwards Bernard Morrison, who comes from Ghana, and ex-Baroka FC ace Thabiso Kutumela. There will also be a new coach in the dugout after Muhsin Ertugral replaced Eric Tinkler as coach. The club was forced to make changes after a disappointing 2015/16 campaign where they ended seventh in the Absa Premiership. Motale feels they need to strengthen further in the coming weeks if they want to be competitive next season. As for Ertugral, he joins the club on the back of an excellent season with Mpumalanga Black Aces, who he guided to fourth place. The Turkish-born German boss also has a distinguished domestic CV having coached the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax with a fair amount of success. Motale is confident with his arrival will boost Pirates.
