Former Nigerian national team captain and head coach Stephen “The Big Boss” Keshi, has died at the age of 54. Keshi who had been linked with the Orlando Pirates coaching job, is thought to have suffered a heart attack in the early hours of this morning. Keshi was one of only two men to win the Africa Cup of Nations both as a player and a coach, the other one being Mahmoud El-Gohary of Egypt. Just before Ephraim Mashaba’s appointment as Bafana Bafana coach, Keshi had been strongly linked to the job. Keshi told SABC Sport journalist Velile Mbuli that he hoped to coach the South African senior national football men’s team in future.
