Having first arrived in the country in 1985 to coach Kaizer Chiefs after the club’s boss Kaizer Motaung had spotted him not only coaching in Zambia and Swaziland but long before he came to Africa, coaching in the US, it was fitting that in 2004, 12 years after Chiefs had last won a league title, the late Ted Dumitru was the man to end that drought. Renowned for his maximal training approach philosophy, Dumitru delivered the first two league titles for Chiefs in the rebranded PSL. Two players who starred for him in that period, Fabian McCarthy and Jabulani Mendu also continued to be his protégées in coaching and they’ve got good memories to share in this short interview with SABC Sport journalist Velile Mbuli.
